Jhola Gur is the viscous liquid gur made by reducing the date sap but stopping short of crystallization. Jhola comes from the Bengali word for ‘hanging’, the way the pots are hung in date trees. Jhola gur has a sweet aroma and it is used in making traditional Bangladeshi pithas.
